POSITION PURPOSE:
The Department Chair is the principal academic advisor for the Art Foundations courses. The Department Chair's primary role is to provide support and guidance to students and faculty for Art Foundations, to maintain a leadership role in all program functions, including curriculum, and to work in support of and in cooperation with all other academic departments in the college. The Department Chair shares responsibility with the Dean of Academic Affairs for the persistence and fiscal well being of the program and for achieving key education targets

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF SELECTED KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Provide leadership and vision in implementing and developing curriculum that has a competitive advantage over similar programs at other institutions.
  • Recruit, develop, and supervise a team of faculty and staff and meet all deadlines relative to that.
  • Responsible for the managing and implementing of the department for student success initiatives including the weekly monitoring of the college persistence targets.
  • Promote and maintain positive student and faculty relations.
  • Manage program operations with fiscal responsibility and adherence to
  • approved budget.
  • Advocate for the College in industry and community relation activities.
  • Follow education policies in daily operation.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of Master of Fine Arts degree with experience and/or coursework in Art Foundations.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in education and industry.
  • Proven experience in fiscal and personnel management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven effectiveness as a leader and member of a team.
